Palembang is the oldest city in Indonesia, was once the administrative center of the Sriwijaya Kingdom and the Palembang Darussalam Sultanate, and is now the capital of South Sumatra Province.

1 Ampera Bridge

Ampera Bridge is a bridge in Palembang City, South Sumatra Province, Indonesia. Ampera Bridge, located in the heart of Palembang, connects the Seberang Ulu and Seberang Ilir areas which are separated by the Musi River.


The construction of this bridge began in April 1962, after obtaining approval from President Soekarno. The cost of its construction was taken from the Japanese war reparations fund.


At first, this bridge, named Bung Karno Bridge. The inauguration of the use of the bridge was carried out in 1965, at the same time confirming the name Bung Karno as the name of the bridge. After the political upheaval in 1966, when the anti-Soekarno movement was very strong, the name of the bridge was changed to Jembatan Ampera (Management of People's Suffering).


The length of the bridge is 1,177 meters, the width is 22 meters, the middle part can be lifted so that large ships can pass, but since 1970 the middle part can no longer be lifted. The ballast pendulum in 1990 was dismantled because it was feared it could be dangerous. The height of this bridge is 11.5 m above the water level, the tower height is 63 m from the ground level and the distance between the towers is 75 m.


2 Kuto Besak Fort

Kuto Besak Fort is located in the southeastern part of the Musi River. The shape of the fort is rectangular. Its size is 288.75 meters × 183.75 meters. There are three gates for the Kuto Besak Fort, namely in the northeast, northwest and southeast. A reconnaissance slit was built into the fort wall. This gap is getting smaller inward.


The pier was built at the front of the fort. This pier was used for the sultan's road to the Musi River. At the end of the pier there is a gate with a pyramid roof. A square was also made at the front of the fort. The cannons were placed parallel to the main gate.


To the right of the gate are two rectangular buildings. Both buildings are made of wood with shingle roofs without walls. One of the buildings is the seat of the sultan. The proposal to build Kuto Besak Fort was submitted during the reign of Sultan Mahmud Badarudin I. The construction of a new fort was held in 1780 during the reign of Sultan Mahmud Muhammad Bahauddin. The walls were built 1.99 meters thick and 9.99 meters high.


3 Cheng Ho Mosque

The mosque, whose full name is Masjid Al-Islam Muhammad Cheng, is a Chinese-style mosque. This mosque is located at 15 Ulu, Seberang Ulu I, or in front of the Jakabaring Main Market, Palembang, South Sumatra. From the center of Palembang City, Cheng Ho Mosque is about 7.3 km away. By motor vehicle, this mosque can be reached in about 15 minutes.


The main building of this mosque is dominated by pink with red pillars. The roof has a green dome with a crescent moon and stars like mosques in the Middle East. While at the four corners of the building there is a pyramid-shaped roof.


The mosque is equipped with two red pagoda-like minarets, each of which is named "Habluminallah" and "Hambluminannas". The two minarets have five levels, which symbolize the five daily prayers. The height of the minarets reaches 17 meters; a symbol of the number of rak'ahs that must be performed. every Muslim does in a day.


4 Punti Kayu Tourism Forest

The Punti Kayu Nature Tourism Forest is a nature conservation area that is used for nature tourism and recreational activities in Palembang, South Sumatra. This forest is located precisely in the Km.7 Palembang area. This area is equipped with flying fox facilities, playgrounds, miniature 7 wonders of the world, lakes, water parks, and various other entertainments.


Punti Kayu is the largest urban pine forest in Indonesia. 5 Srivijaya Kingdom Archaeological Park

The Sriwijaya Kingdom Archaeological Park or previously known as the Karanganyar Site is an ancient park, a former residential area and park associated with the Sriwijaya kingdom, which is located on the north bank of the Musi River in the city of Palembang, South Sumatra.


In this area found a network of canals, ditches and ponds that are arranged neatly and regularly which ensures that this area is man-made, so it is believed that the center of the Srivijaya empire in Palembang was located on this site. In this area found many ancient relics which indicate that this area was once the center of settlements and centers of human activity.

7 Kemaro Island

Kemaro Island, a small delta on the Musi River, is about 6 km from the Ampera Bridge. Kemaro Island is located in the industrial area of ​​the Sriwijaya Fertilizer Factory and Pertamina Plaju.


Kemaro Island has an area of ​​±79 ha with a height of 5 m above sea level. Besides having beautiful natural charm, Kemaro Island is synonymous with the Chinese city and the Chinese community as well as the customs and original life of the Palembang people. The historical tourist attraction on Kemaro Island is in the form of historical relics (9-story Pagoda, Sriwijaya Princess Tomb, Hok Tjing Rio Temple, Buddhist Temple, artistic performances, and religious rituals, especially Tridharma people).
